Just Do It!

8 weeks ago, I set out on a journey along with three other inspired ladies to achieve our ultimate health and fitness goals by starting a support group.  And we did.  Every Saturday we email a report to each other on how the week transpired.  Whether we succeeded or failed during the week, we tell it all.

If someone had a bad day and did succumb to junk food instead of a healthier choice, there is never condemnation.  The focus is always, "Learn from this and keep moving."  The love and support shared by the the ladies in this group never fails to touch my heart.   It really has been a tremendous blessing.

In the sixth week after joining the group I began to notice a very unexpected dynamic happening within my own life.  I realized that I was naturally applying principals learned in my health and fitness journey to my everyday life............principals like, learn from your mistakes and move on, never give up and "challenge yourself " have become my daily mantras.  And it's not that I didn't know this before or hadn't tried to do this in the past.  Somehow now though, it's much easier to do, very effortless, like breathing.

I am learning that real power is not about feelings too.  Pressing on in spite of those feelings is where the real victory is.  And yes, I know there will be days ahead when I want to throw in the towel but I also know that "wanting to do something is not the same as doing it".  Sometimes  I want pie instead of whole wheat bread, ..........and sometimes, I really don't feel like exercising for 45 minutes .......but I do anyway.  It's all about staying focused and never giving up.  We all have the power to change our own lives.  Whether the goal is big or small, it is all achievable if you believe in yourself and keep working towards your goals.  So, let's just do it!

1930's Style - I Just Cant Get Enough!

I am seriously smitten with 1930's style furniture, fashion and design.  I mean seriously.  Perhaps because everything looked so luxurious and glam then.....and effort was put into even the most minute detail.

Amazing craftsmanship was the norm then too, and not just for the rich.  Though I wasn't born in that era it is definitely my favorite by far.  So what's a girl to do if she wants to find authentic 1930's 2011...and not have a cardiac arrest from the prices?

Well, here is what I do.  Two words, Craigslist and Ebay!  I stalk these sites like you won't believe.  Like "eye of the tiger", relentless.  After all, the very day I fail to check may be the day my dream piece is listed.  Just sayin.

There is no better example of this than the pictures below.  I had been looking for a real specific type of couch from the 1930's and I had searched for months and then bam!  (ha ha, yes I said bam)  It happened.  This gorgeous perfect couch that had all the elements I wanted. And trust me I am very nit picky, but that's another post entirely.

This couch also came with a love seat. How neat is that!

My favorite part is the tufted back and the gently sloped arms.  So classic, so 1930's lux.  Oh, and would you believe it's also extremely comfortable too? Yup, sure is.

Another great feature of this couch is the legs.   Though you can't see it here, the legs are exactly like the modern reproduction below.  So, if I take of the skirt I will have a couch that has both modern and vintage elements. Perfect!

Now that I have my couch, I am looking for a French Provential dresser like the one pictured here or similar.   I  am so excited to see what I will find.  Who knows....   One thing I do know for sure is, I will never, ever settle for less than what I really want.  This is a principal that I have applied to all aspects of my life,.  Be patient. Work hard. And go get it!  Period.

Style Inspiration/icon - Halle Berry

If there is one closet I would like to raid, that would be Halle Berry's.  As if being drop dead gorgeous is not enough, this woman has impeccable style too!  She manages with great success to blend modern, unique, elegant, funky and sophisticated into her own brand of style......and it's pure fabulousness.  Halle is a true fashion chameleon, constantly changing her look but always, always staying true to herself.

Taste is something that cannot be taught.   Either you have it or you don't.  Halle has it, and lots of it.  She knows her body and how to dress it.  Beautifully.

So what happens when one of the most gorgeous women on the planet has incredible style..... and the means to afford the best designers?.....   Take a look!

The Power and Glory of Craigslist!

Listed for less than $50.00 on CL

It is no surprise at all that I have become such a fan of Craigslist.   After all, this site is one ginormous garage sale, and I do love a good garage sale!  What's not to like?  You can find anything on Craigslist, and I mean anything.  Need to hire a clown for your kid's party? Craigslist. Mulch for your garden? Craigslist.......what about a specific style of furniture? done!  You get the picture.  From the refined and expensive to the down right dirt cheap and preposterous, you will find it all on craigslist.  And that's the beauty of it.   Craigslist is there 24/7 in all it's cyber glory churning out new fabulous listings on the minute, and some really strange and ugly ones too............ which makes the searching even more exciting to me.  Kinda like finding a brand new pair of Louboutin's in a box of miscellaneous stuff.  Oh. Happy. Day!!!

Listed for $25.00  on CL

If there is a down side to Craigslist though, it would be arranging the pickup of an item.  My simple rule is never go alone and never let the buyer come to your home.  Always be careful when you are dealing with strangers. It's a rule I practice with no exceptions.

Having said that, my experiences so far has been really good ones. I've even made a few friends in the process so I fully endorse Craigslist to anyone who enjoys garage sales or bargain hunting.  The finds are swwweeeeeeeeet!

All the Above for $500.00 on CL

Check out the beauties I found today. What do you think?  Do you use Craigslist?

Weight Loss/Fitness Inspiration Mel B

Mel B is truly an inspiration to me from a fitness point of view.  And although I know nothing about her except that she had been a member of the Spice Girls, and recently had a baby....... that is enough. You don't get a body like this without sacrifice and hard work.  Especially after having a baby......that's for sure.  And since Mel B and I have the same body type/frame I know that with a little work and determination I too can get ripped!

So, with this in mind I started my mini weight loss and fitness plan.  My goal was to lose 10 pounds and unleash some T&T. (tone and tighten)  That was six weeks ago.  Since then I have totally changed my exercise and diet regimen. I eat mostly fruit and vegetables now and I exercise fives times a week.  At first it was hard, especially the strength training but now I am getting accustomed to it, even liking it.  Who knew!

As the pounds melt away and the muscles begin to develop, I am getting more and more excited every day.  I feel stronger and better than I did in my early twenties. Seriously.  I am so siked to keep going, I have only two more pounds to go!  Whooo hooo! Perhaps I will celebrate by posting a bikini shot of my own when I lose the last two pounds.......ha ha, probally not, but I will post "before and after" shots though.  After all, a picture is better than a thousand words right?

What are your health/weight loss goals?  I would love to hear them.

Cuff Love

I saw this picture on freepeople's web store and I was blown away.  So, of course I just had to share this with you.  How incredible are these bracelets! Wow.

Mark Jacobs - $98.00

I am a huge cuff fan so If there is one piece of jewelry I highly recommend splurging on, it would be the cuff bracelet. They bring major swag and drama to an outfit, like no other piece of jewelry can. Yep.  They know how to "bring it!"

shopstyle - around $15.00

I like to wear them stacked or really wide, like two or three inches in width.  I also like mixing different textures, like leather and metals which really makes for interesting and high end looking pieces.

Ann Taylor - $58.00

Cuff bracelets should be tried on for fit though.  Only buy these online if you know which size works for you, otherwise you may end up with a piece that is ill fitting and not so flattering.  Fit is key here. You don't need to be squeezing your wrist into something uncomfortable.  Once you find the right style and the right fit, you will fall in love with cuffs too!  They are that cool.

Kendra Scott - $188.00

Song Of The Week- Party Rock Anthem

I can't get this song out of my head!  If you haven't heard it already here goes, I dare you not to shuffle!  And check out the 80's fashion, ahhhhhh, good times.
